I woke up on the 29th July and bounced out of bed (this doesn't happen very often!) The sun was shining and it was finally Katie & Dan's wedding day! This beautiful couple booked me as their wedding photographer roughly three years ago and as we approached their date, it became clear that Covid would not allow it to go ahead. They were so upset but quickly got to work rescheduling for the following year and thankfully I was available. However, the date rolled around and was sadly cancelled again due to the pandemic. They were heart-broken, in tears, and I felt so sorry for them. But, determined to keep their spirits and excitement alive, they rescheduled once more and would you believe it, I was available for that day too (clever them for having a mid-week wedding!) So I made my way to London to begin shooting this joyful and bright day!
You don't see them often enough - tea dresses! Hanging up on the wardrobe door was Katie's beautiful, tea-length dress with a satin skirt (and pockets! Yes please!) and delicate lacing on the bodice and around the shoulders, leaving a rather sexy keyhole back!
And of course, you don't wear a short wedding dress without amazing shoes, and oh how amazing they were! Deep blue and adorned with the most gorgeous bling around the heel.
It's so lovely to have beautiful things to capture as a wedding photographer and the dress and shoes told me I would not be disappointed!
Capturing photos as a London wedding photographer offers all sorts of venues in all shapes and sizes and no less so than in London! However, one unique spot was Katie & Dan's venue - The Tudor Barn in Eltham. It is the only original Tudor barn in all of London and dates back to 1525! Stunning!
Katie & Dan's wedding had a blue and yellow colour scheme and they incorporated in into the day perfectly. Gorgeous sunflowers added the yellow aspect and they filled Katie's bouquet with such happiness!
We already know about Katie's stunning blue shoes and this colour was carried through in the bridesmaids' dresses and men's suits with Dan looking very dapper in a waistcoat and rolled up shirt sleeves.
Sunflower details followed the theme inside which was styled beautifully to suit the venue with lots of wooden decorations, candles and lights in bottles.
What better way to enter the ceremony than through red velvet curtains!
Katie followed her bridesmaids up the aisle accompanied by her father to her eagerly-awaiting husband-to-be.
The love and joy in the room was palpable and the ceremony was such fun (there were many fits of giggles from the couple!)
Their sisters read beautiful readings and Katie & Dan beamed with happiness as they walked arm-in-arm back down the aisle.
After a couple of glasses of fizz and many hugs and kisses with their guests, it was time for the couple shoot - my favourite part of being a wedding photographer! The venue's grounds offered plenty of picturesque spots to snap away at the happy couple and the fun and giggles of the ceremony continued through the session!
We took break for dinner and speeches which held more laughs and even a surprise flash-mob performance from the guests!
We then returned to the outside to make the most of golden hour - that time of day where the sun is low and casts beautiful golden light on the couple - a wedding photographer's dream!
With their favourite date being at Disney Land, they mirrored this joy with Lion King's 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight?' and swayed and spun around the dancefloor, shortly accompanied by their parents and other guests. The party continued and, not wishing to be too traditional, Katie swapped out throwing her bouquet for her grandad throwing his pants! (Don't worry, they were clean!)
It was such an honour to be Katie & Dan's London wedding photographer. They were thrilled with their photos and I was so happy to see them finally tie the knot after such a long wait!
"Where do we start? We are so grateful to Rachel for the moments she captured for us. We could not recommend her highly enough. She went above and beyond - how and when she got some of the pictures we will never know as she was so discreet. Thank you for capturing us so perfectly! Katie & Dan x"
